T101 - Jenny Lind, Civil War Era Trunk

Size: 28" Wide, 17" Tall, 18" front to back at widest point.

A beautiful Jenny Lind Stagecoach Trunk of the 1850's to 60's with the distinctive figure eight shape. Some were used during the gold rush days and some during the Civil War. They were first made by American trunk makers about 1850 based on historical documentation, and became known as Jenny Lind trunks by the mid 1850's. This has the unique figure eight shape which is very elegant. This one has the original iron bands including two up each side, with large brass studs. The trunk was originally leather covered and since that could not be saved it was recovered with a burgundy faux leather fabric. The front tie-down leather straps are replaced in the original style. The solid brass lock plate is original but the lock is no longer functional (no key). The interior of the trunk is covered in new floral fabric. The original tray is also present and is fabric covered also. The side handles are replaced in the original leather sliding arrow style. This was a high quality trunk for its' time. The trunk is structurally very sound with a beautiful finish. A true piece of American history related to the Swedish singer Jenny Lind. These were made during and after her extremely popular U.S. tour from 1850 to 1852. Many items were named after her in the following years and she remained very popular until her death. The trunk is well made and strong and the bottom is in clean condition too with two wood slats. It's a very nice display piece! Please see all the pictures as part of the description.
