M108 - Rare Iron Trunk Latches #5

A pair of antique cast iron number 5 trunk latches. Very strong and heavy. They have the 5 marked on the top piece. (sizes were 1 through 5 with 5 being the largest). Measure 6 1/4" tall by 3 1/4" wide when latched together, measured edge to edge.

They are rare because the #5 size with the "clover" design in the base are extremely hard to find. This is the first set of this style that I've had to sell.

They are clean, complete, and work well. These were patented in 1878 and used on trunks into the early 1900's by many trunk makers. These have not been repainted and have the old finish with a nice patina.
