T115 - Rare Jenny Lind Doll Trunk 1860's
$285.00
Size: 12" x 7 1/2" tall x 7 3/4".
A rare Jenny Lind toy, sample, or doll trunk of the 1860's to 70's. These are extremely hard to find, especially so complete! It has the distinctive bread loaf shape which is part of the Jenny Lind style. This one has nearly all of the original printed faux leather covering, which was made to resemble tooled leather. There are four gold paper bands with brass tacks and a fancy brass lock cover. The lock is complete but without a key. The leather handles have been replaced as they would have been. The old leather straps and small buckles are original and add to the charm of this miniature trunk.
There are small iron hinges which are the originals. It also has four small metal rollers on the bottom! The interior has the old paper lining, original wood tray, and the drop down compartment in the lid. These interior features including an original lithograph are all in very nice original condition! (See detailed pictures). Perfect for display with your fashion dolls or miniature trunk collection, as a special jewelry box, or as a great conversation display piece!
A true piece of American history related to Swedish singer Jenny Lind who toured the US from 1850 to 1852 with P.T. Barnum. These special little trunks were well made and used by children and ladies, but were not something everyone could afford. The trunk is all wood and the bottom is in very good condition. The printed brown and gold paper covering is original with beautiful designs. There is some wear to the covering and trim, as expected for a 150+ year old trunk. The overall condition is very good and the trunk displays very well. I have not had a small Jenny Lind trunk of such good overall condition in many years. Please see all the pictures for the condition details. For many years I have specialized in the early American made trunks including the famous Jenny Lind style which originated in the United States.
