T103 - Jenny Lind, Stagecoach Trunk, Ca. 1860
$598.00
Size: 30" Wide, 16 1/2" Tall, 18" front to back.
A beautiful full size Jenny Lind Stagecoach trunk of the 1850's to 60's. Some also call these a Civil War period trunk and some of these were used during the war. They were first made by American trunk makers about 1850 based on historical documentation, and became known as Jenny Lind trunks by the late 1850's after her American tour. This has the unique keyhole shape which is very elegant. This one has four iron bands and two up each side, with the 65 original large brass buttons and a shield shaped original solid brass lock (no key). It's a little unusual having the brass buttons across the top of each side. The interior of the trunk is covered in new fabric. The inner lid as a nice print and a label from Strong's Trunk Factory in New York. The tray is also present. The side handles are replaced in the original style with the large arrow shaped ends. This was a high quality trunk for its' time. The iron hinges are in good condition. The trunk is structurally very sound with a beautiful finish. A true piece of American history related to the Swedish singer Jenny Lind. These were made during and after her extremely popular U.S. tour in 1850 to 1852. Many items were named after her in the following years and she remained very popular until her death. The trunk is well made and strong and the bottom is in excellent condition too with two wood slats. Being around 150 years old the trunk does have expected signs of age such as some thin stress cracks but nothing that weakens the trunk. Please see all the pictures as part of the description.
